Masdevallia

Fertilization Masdevallia : In the autumnal period let’s fertilize our orchids sporadically, every 30-40 days. We should avoid excessive fertilizations during those periods with very short days, to avoid stimulating the plants which tend to have short periods of vegetative rest.

continental : We can grow the the Masdevallia in a place where it can receive a few hours a day of direct sunlight, but where it is protected from the sun during most of the day.
The Masdevallia is a quite delicate plant, which can’t stand the cold weather; when the autumnal temperatures go below 15°C let’s bring them inside the apartment.

alpine : Locate this plant in a partially shaded place, where it can receive a few hous of direct solar light.
Let’s avoid exposing the Masdevallia to temperatures below 15°C; when the autumnal climate brings nocturnal minimum temperatures quite low let’s move our plants inside the apartment.

mediterranean : We suggest a pretty sheltered location, so that the plant can receive direct solar rays only during the coolest hours of the day.
We advise growing these plants in a sheltered place; when the autumnal temperatures go below 15°C it’s best to locate the the Masdevallia in the apartment.

continental : We suggest quite frequent and regular watering, in the matter of 1-2 glasses of water, but without exceeding; we should always remember to wait for the soil to dry completely between one watering and another; usually we should water every 1-2 weeks.

alpine : In this period of the year we must water only when the soil is perfectly dry, using 0-1 glasses of water; usually watering every 2-3 weeks can be enough.

mediterranean : During the autumn months these plants don’t need too much watering; we should remember anyhow to act regularly with 2-3 glasses of water, when the soil is clearly dry. Typically watering is done every 0-1 weeks.

Treatments Masdevallia : Let’s use an anticoccidiosis, only if necessary; it is best to avoid spraying the flowers with the insecticide compound which could ruin them. We should remember to keep the plants in windy and damp place.
